Stoke – on-Trent, England (Sports Network) - Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan and-a-half-year contract with the club that includes an option for another year.
Whelan arrived at the Britannia Stadium in January 2008 and has played a big role in the success of the Potters over the past 12 months.
The Republic of Ireland international helped Stoke reach its first-ever FA Cup final, while also playing a part in Stoke qualifying for the Europa League.
"Glenn has played a big part in our achievements since he came to the club and it is important to look after players who have been the bedrock of that success," manager Tony Pulis told the club's official website.
"He has had a fantastic time these past 12 months, and he's shown that he's a player who thrives on being challenged to step up to the next level."
The 27-year-old has scored one goal in 15 league appearances this season for Stoke, which sits in eighth place in the Premiership table.
