Houston, TX – The Astros have claimed outfielder Fernando Martinez off waivers from the New York Mets.
Martinez, 23, spent most of last season with Triple-A Buffalo and hit .260 with eight home runs and 30 RBI. He has played in 47 games over parts of three seasons with New York, batting .183 with two homers and 26 strikeouts.
Additionally, the Astros designated pitcher Henry Villar for assignment.
